Training a Puppy to Sleep straight through the Night Doesn't Have to Be a Nightmare!

Love Baby Love Sleep

Training a puppy to sleep straight through the night is one of the first forms of training you will want to produce with your new puppy. The fact is - a puppy is a baby, and like a newborn baby he will wake many times in the night for the first few weeks. You do not have to be thoroughly hostage to your puppy's whims however, and it is inherent to moderately train him to sleep soundly straight through the night. The key is to take a few basic 'common sense' approaches to bedtime and your puppy in order to begin the good habits that will lead to a lifetime of sound sleep.

The first step in training a puppy to sleep straight through the night is to determined control his evenings to ensure he is ready to sleep when the time comes. Puppies admittedly sleep a lot, but if you allow him to sleep away the evening then he will awake refreshed and ready to play just as you are getting ready for bed.

Keep him awake with active play, time outdoors, and fun activities - wear him out so he will fall gratefully to sleep when the time comes for bed. Controlling his food and water intake is also important. In general plan to restrict passage to food and water up to 3 hours before bed. Take him out for a potty break just before retiring for the night.

The next key to training a puppy to sleep straight through the night lies in putting middle of the night potty breaks on a schedule. In general potty breaks for puppies that are 7-9 weeks old need to be every 2 hours, at 9-14 weeks this stretches to 3 hours, and at 14 weeks and up, it becomes every 4 hours. Set your alarm and take the puppy out on this schedule, then as you have success with no waking and crying, stretch the agenda by 15 exiguous increments.

In this manner you will be incrementally training a puppy to sleep straight through the night. All the time wake yourself - if your puppy has to cry to wake you they will begin to feel they can wake you as they like with crying. It is also prominent that these night time potty trips are 'all business' - you do not want your puppy to learn that night time potty trips are party time.

3 Sleep Positions to relieve Back and Sciatic Pain

Love Baby Love Sleep

"Start the day right". How many times have we heard this line? A lot of experts have said this before to motivate us in doing our daily disposition with obvious disposition and outlook. This is truly correct. Nobody would want to start the day with the wrong foot. Experts now believe that for a man to start the day right, one necessary thing is that he must have slept comfortably the night before. We all the time connect comfortable sleeping with a good mattress, pillows and everything. But we often forget one foremost thing and that is the way we sleep. Sleep positioning plays a huge factor in achieving a good night's sleep.

Studies report that allowable sleep positioning relieves back and sciatic pain. Majority of working individuals have already experienced back pain at some point in their lives. The most likely causes are improper posture at work and while sleep.

Sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the human body. It starts from the lower back, down the buttocks, legs and knees. Because it starts from the lower back and extends until our lower limbs, our sleeping position also affects this nerve production our night very long and uncomfortable. There is also what we refer to as Sciatica which refers to the pain, dullness and tingling sensation in the leg. Improper sleep positioning worsens all of sciatica's symptoms as well.

Let us now take a look at some expert-recommended sleeping positions as well as which positions to avoid relieving back and sciatic pain:

1. Do not sleep on your stomach. This position only increases the pressure on our spine because it exaggerates the arch on your lower back thereby expanding pressure or strain causing back pain.

2. On your side in a fetal position. This is probably the best position for sleeping because it relieves most of the strain or stress on the back. Make sure to properly lie on your side, make a fetal position putting a pillow in in the middle of your legs to ensure a restful night.

3. On your back. If this is your style, then there must be a big, fluffy and comfortable pillow under your knees. This way, most of the strain is kept away from the lower back and sciatic nerve. This position maintains the general curve of the back as well.

There are also straightforward and safe exercises to help comfort back pain. Here are three easy disposition that you can do every day for just 15 minutes:

1. Knee bending - do some straightforward and diplomatic knee bending exercise. To be safe and just in case you have knee issues, pull up a chair or stand in front of a table and hold onto it for support. Stand straight, shoulders relaxed slowly inhaling and exhaling. slowly bend the knees while pulling up your heels in the process to comfort tensions on the knees while supporting the lower back as well. Do five to ten repetitions. Avoid over straining the knees and back.

2. Hip twist or Hip rolls - a straightforward and straight forward rehearsal we've seen a combine of times being done in aerobic classes. Stand firmly, legs apart. Tighten the abdominal muscles and put your hands on your hips. Rotate the hips alternately counter-clockwise and then clockwise, five counts each. Breathe regularly while doing this exercise.

3. Waist twist - also a straight forward rehearsal just like the hip roll. Stand straight, feet apart and hands located on your sides. Start twisting to the right with hands dinky raised towards the shoulders. Do the same going to the left. This will stretch and rehearsal the lower back as well as the shoulders. Make sure to breath slowly in and out and not to over stretch to forestall from straining the hips and the back.

A good sleep positioning along with easy straightforward rehearsal to comfort back and sciatic pain can truly conduce to production the start of your day right. Remember to avow allowable posture at all times; while walking, working, sitting and most importantly sleeping.

Baby Sleeping Tips - Easy Remedies For Baby Sleep Problems

Love Baby Love Sleep

Are there evenings when you feel that your baby's sleeping patterns will never be regulated? Can you fantasize a time when your baby will sleep long sufficient for the two of you to feel refreshed and rested? Parents know that there is no way to avoid the occasional night in the nursery rocker, but how can we keep those nights with baby sleeping very minuscule or not at all to a bare minimum?

A tasteless quiz, that new parents ask is, "How long will it be before we can get baby sleeping on a schedule?" or "When will we be able to sleep straight through the night without waking up a dozen times?" Does this sound like you on your last visit to the pediatrician? Some lucky parents brag that they have never been plagued with sleep problems at all but the write back to those tasteless questions agreeing to the experts is that the average time when babies start sleeping straight through the night is a year or so.

When you are sleep deprived and can hardly keep your eyes open the last thing you want to hear is that you will have to wait a year or more for relief. Some desperate moms have even questioned why there are sleeping pills for grownups and no baby sleeping aids or remedies. I believe in the natural arrival to parenting whenever possible, but I have to admit succumbing to panic due to exhaustion myself. However, I knew that I needed methods to help my baby sleep naturally. In my crusade I found a few things that worked and I am more than happy to share my methods with you.

The first part may be easiest and yet the most important: don't wait until a few minutes before bedtime to start fretting about how to get baby to sleep. I found that the best way to get an infant to sleep at night starts with a habit that's put into convention as early as possible.

(1. Form the nursery to be an ideal sleep environment. Originate a space that can be darkened as a matter of fact straight through the use of room darkening window treatments.

(2. Search the nursery in a quiet part of your home and have some formula of creating white noise to block out road traffic and household chatter.

(3. Take time to read the telltale signs that your baby is sleepy. When baby gets fussy or when your see the eyelids droop, stop what you are doing and kick off the bedtime routine. Don't miss this chance or you may regret it. Babies can go from the drowsy stage to hyperactive, unhappy creatures with a second wind in report time. If there ever was an instance in parenting when timing is important, this could be it.

Every mother's process for relaxing her baby is unique, there is no definite set of rules for what should be involved. Anything your baby sleeping habit works out to be; stick to it. Try not to vary from it from day to day. The best way to an ideal baby sleep routine, relies on mom having a routine.
You will have a calmer and more sure child if you are so predictable that baby all the time knows exactly what happens next.

(4. Stick closely to a schedule. Have a sure time that you dress baby for the crib. A mom whose newborn had an erratic sleeping pattern shared with me that she stuck to a rigid habit for over a week and roughly crumbled more than once. Then roughly magically the baby began to write back and started to stick with an early bedtime.

(5. If baby seems unhappy or fussy, many mothers have had excellent results with baby slings. It makes sense that some babies need some time to adjust to the world. These sensitive souls miss the petition of your body and feeling close to you at all times. Perhaps the use of a sling will get you straight through this period of adjustment and allow you to get a few chores done while you're at it.

(6. an additional one way to ease baby into our strange world is with white noise. There are white noise machines that closely mimic the sounds that are tasteless in your womb, but if your allocation is tight a table fan may do the trick.

(7. How many nights have we put our minuscule ones to sleep only to have them get wide awake, when they feel the change in climatic characteristic from our arms to the cold crib sheet? A solution to this baby sleep problem is to put a warm water bottle inside the baby's bed as part of your bedtime routine. When the time comes for you to put baby into her crib, take off the water bottle and slip baby into the warm and cozy crib.

The list of baby sleeping tips could go on and on. What works for one baby might not yield results with another. However, calm, loving persistence and repetition will be the basic building blocks for developing your newborn's regular sleeping patterns that will relax her and let both of you start sleeping like a baby.

Disclaimer: This report is strictly for informational purposes only. It should not replace curative advice from your pediatrician or chosen professional. You should all the time make choices on the advice of your chosen pro in matters with regard to your baby's health and safety.

Baby health ~ Natural Remedies - relieve Colic, Intestinal Cramps, Gas, Teething Pain, Promote Sleep

Love Baby Love Sleep

What is the Baby Bowen Procedure? The Bowen Baby procedure consists of 7 gentle, light touch moves for stimulating balance in your baby's autonomic nervous law (Ana). This polite stimulation will ease your baby's colic and heighten her/his allembracing health and well-being.

Bowen therapy was advanced by an Australian named Tom Bowen. The government-commissioned Webb narrative in 1975 reported Tom Bowen attending some thirteen thousand patients annually with an 80-90% success rate, ordinarily in only one or two sessions.

Benefits: Colic; Asthma; healthy functioning of all organs and systems, especially the nervous, respiratory, digestive and alimentary (elimination) systems; promotes bonding between parents and baby.

How Often: May perform Baby Bowen Moves as often as needed (at the first sign of your baby's discomfort) for the first six-weeks after birth, or weekly as a inhibitive and for Well Baby Care.

Baby Bowen Procedure, Part I

The first 4 moves are made on your baby's back, between her/his shoulder blades.

Your baby lays face down, on her/his stomach, or if there are two of you one may hold the baby with her/his chest facing you while the other one performs the first 2 Baby Bowen Moves.

Baby Bowen Moves

1. Always begin by doing your first Baby Bowen Move on the Left side. Place the pad of your Right thumb flat on top of the muscles lying along the Left side of your baby's spine. Your Right thumb is just above the lowest angle of your baby's Left shoulder blade.

You must first get into the definite position for performing your Baby Bowen Move by gently pulling the flat pad of your Right thumb toward you, arresting the skin away from your baby's spine as far as it will go, like drawing the string of a bow.

At this end point you will gently press down and in, hooking the lowest edge of your thumb slightly. Hold this "gateway" entry position for 3-seconds.

By holding for 3 seconds you are giving a tiny challenge to your baby's nervous system, letting it know you are there. You may (or may not) notice a wee softening of the tissue as the nerve endings repond and open to your tiny challenge. This feedback loop takes about 3-seconds.

Remember there is Always a 3-second challenge before each Bowen Baby Move!

Now push your Right thumb Toward your baby's spine, move gently with even, polite pressure across the muscles, the pad of your thumb flattens as you perform the move.

Your polite Bowen Baby Move are activating nerve endings and sending a signal along the nerve pathway, like a reset switch to your baby's nervous system, to heighten balance and stimulate your baby's natural curative response.

Think of your Baby Bowen Move like turning on a light switch.

2. Now immediately perform the next Baby Bowen Move by reaching across your baby's spinal column and placing the Right pad of your index finger atop the muscles along your baby's spine.

Again you must first get into the definite position for performing your Baby Bowen Move by gently pushing with the pad of your Right index finger, to move the skin away from your baby's spine as far as it will go.

At this end point you will gently press down and in with the pad of your Right index finger, hooking your finger tip slightly. Remember to hold this gateway entry position for a 3-second challenge.

Now with the pad of your Right index finger, pull your index finger Toward your baby's spine, move gently with even, polite pressure across the muscles, the pad of your Right index finger will flatten as you perform the move.

3. You will immediately succeed these first two moves with two more in the same exact sequence and locations except in the opposite direction, Away from your baby's spine.

Place the pad of your Right index finger, flat on top of the muscles along the left side of your baby's spine, and push the skin away towards your baby's spine, as far as it will go.

Gently press down and in with the pad of your Right index finger, hooking your finger tip slightly, press gently on the muscles, activating the nerve endings for a 3-second challenge.

Now with the pad of your Right index finger, pull your index finger away from your baby's spine, move gently with even, polite pressure across the muscles, the pad of your index finger will flatten as you perform the move.

4. Now immediately perform the next Baby Bowen Move by reaching across your baby's spinal column and placing the Right pad of your thumb atop the muscles along your baby's spine.

Again you must first get into the definite position for performing your Baby Bowen Move by gently pulling with the pad of your index finger, to move the skin toward your baby's spine as far as it will go.

At this end point you will gently press down and in with the pad of your Right index finger, hooking the lowest edge of your thumb slightly. Remember to hold this gateway entry position for a 3-second challenge.

Now with the pad of your Right thumb, push Away from your baby's spine, move gently with even, polite pressure across the muscles, the pad of your Right thumb will flatten as you perform the move.

Baby Bowen Procedure, Part Ii

Your last 3 Baby Bowen Moves are made with your baby lying flat on her/his back.

Baby Bowen Moves

Holding Point or energy Blocker - With the middle finger of your left hand apply polite pressure just below the tip of cartilage at the end of your baby's breast bone, called the xiphoid process. Say this holding point with polite pressure while performing the following two Baby Bowen Moves.

The purpose of a holding Point or energy Blocker is to set your intention for focusing your Baby Bowen Move to a singular location and effectively concentrates the signal you are sending along a singular nerve pathway.

5. Place the pad of your Right thumb mid-way along the border of your baby's left rib cage, gently move the skin up along the border of your baby's rib cage, to end point as as far as it can go.

Now slip the edge of your Right thumb pad slightly under the angle of your baby's rib and with very gentle, light touch pressure, move your Right thumb downward, along the angle of your baby's rib to the end point and flatten your thumb.

6. Repeat the move on the right side of your baby's rib cage this time using the pad of your Right middle finger. Find your position mid-way along the border of your baby's rib cage, move up along the border to the end point.

Now slip the edge of your Right middle finger slightly under angle of your baby's rib and with gentle, light touch pressure, move downward along the angle of the rib to the end point and flatten your finger.

7. Take your Left middle finger off your holding Point or energy Blocker and place your Left hand on top of your baby's chest to feel your baby's rhythmic pattern of breathing.

Place the pad of your Right middle finger about 1 inch below your baby's xiphoid process.

Feel the breath, in and out, get in sync and on an out breath perform the following move.

Baby Bowen Move: With the Right pad of your middle finger, gently draw your baby's skin up toward the tip of her/his xiphoid process, then press gently down and in, hooking your finger tip and pulling downward with gentle, light touch pressure then flatten your finger.

Baby Bowen Moves are most sufficient when performed as your baby is exhaled, breath out. Just do the best you can and with institution you will get into the feel of doing your Baby Bowen Moves to perform outstanding results!

Bowen therapy is currently being researched in hopes to better understand why this gentle, noninvasive and holistic law of curative is so effective. The International Bowen Therapy Academy argument is being hosted in June 2006 by Yale University where a Masters Degree schedule is being offered.

Because of its benign nature True Chamomile may be used to soothe diaper rash. Use in a very weak dilution of pure jojoba oil of less than 1%.

Please Note: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of aromatic oils, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results purchase the top quality oils you can perhaps find. Use certified organic vital oils, or oils that have been tested and are pesticide free.

Properly administered vital oils are a natural, safe and sufficient way to heighten your health and well-being and can produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. During this first week of your second trimester, your baby is growing quite fast. He/she is colse to 3.4 inches from crown to rump (the top of your baby's head to his bottom) and weighs approximately 1.5 ounces. That's pretty remarkable, considering that your baby was only 3 inches long last week.

Your baby continues to grow at a excellent rate in the second trimester. In fact, did you know that by 19 weeks, your baby will have doubled his/her size? At 14 weeks pregnant, your baby's head is larger than the rest of his/her body. It honestly accounts for half of your baby's total length. Not to worry, though. His/her body will soon catch up. Your diminutive one's facial features are becoming more defined this week. The baby's eyes and ears are enthralling to their final positions, and his/her eyebrows are also growing. while pregnancy week 14, your baby's neck is elongating and his/her chin is beginning rise up off the chest. The yolk sac that in case, granted your baby's source of food in the first trimester is approximately thoroughly gone, and your diminutive one now gets everything he/she needs from the placenta.

Fun Fact:
Your baby can now pee! By 14 weeks, your diminutive one's bladder empties every 30 minutes. Since your baby is constantly swallowing amniotic fluid (which gets filtered out through his/her kidneys), passing urine is a fact of life for him/her.

Mom'S pregnancy Symptoms

Now that you're in your second trimester, you may start to notice that some of the annoying pregnancy symptoms that you experienced in the first 13 weeks have disappeared, such as your morning sickness and fatigue. Since you have more energy in the second trimester, you may want to trip or take a vacation while you can. (Fatigue will come back to haunt you in the final leg of your pregnancy.)

Although you will feel much best in the second trimester, you may start to caress new pregnancy symptoms. Tasteless complaints that pregnant women in the second trimester have consist of water retention, gas, heartburn, and backaches.

As you get larger in your pregnancy, you should expect backaches. Over 50 percent of all women caress back pain at some point while pregnancy. They are due to the extra strain that your growing uterus places on your back muscles. You may feel lower back pain when you're standing, sitting, or even when you're in bed.

Another very Tasteless symptom to expect at 14 weeks pregnant is gas. Pregnant women are often more "gassy" than their non-pregnant counterparts. Gas while pregnancy is caused by the elevated levels of the hormone progesterone in your body. Progesterone actual relaxes your gastrointestinal tract and slows down your digestive processes. So expect to caress more gas, bloating, and flatulence while pregnancy.

Fun Fact:
At 14 weeks pregnant, your doctor can now feel the top of your uterus (called the "fundus"). From this point onward, your doctor will feel the fundus at every prenatal visit to make sure that your baby is growing properly.

Pregnancy 411

Back Pain while Pregnancy

In the second trimester, as you continue to pack on the pounds and your uterus grows larger, you will caress backaches to some degree. (Depending on your pain tolerance, you may feel more pain than the next woman.) Back pain while pregnancy is very common, and it's no wonder. Your uterus can progress as much as 1,000 times its traditional size by the time your baby is born!

There are many reasons for back pain or backaches while pregnancy. In some cases, it's caused by the extra weight of uterus placing strain on your muscles and adding stress to your joints. That's why your back may feel achier at the end of the day. In some cases, your expanding uterus may press on a nerve and this causes discomfort. If you have weak abdominal muscles, this can also cause pain in your lower back.

Although backaches are uncomfortable and often an unchangeable pregnancy symptom, you may be able to ease your pain by following these tips:

Wear low-heeled shoes that have good arch support. (Not flats) Do not lift heavy objects, if possible. Ask man to do heavy lifting for you. If you have to stand for long periods of time, you should keep one foot elevated on a stool or box. Sleep on a firm mattress. If your bed is too soft, have your husband/partner or friend place a board in the middle of the box spring and mattress. If you need to pick something up off the ground, do not bend from the waist. Instead, you should squat down and bend your knees. Sleep on your side with a pregnancy pillow, or a maintain pillow, in the middle of your legs. When you're sitting down, make sure that the chair has good back support. You may want to place a pillow behind your lower back for extra support.

Back pain should never be severe, as this can indicate a problem. Call your doctor if you have severe pain or pain that lasts longer than two weeks. Sometimes, back pain is a sign of pregnancy complications, especially if it's accompanied with fever, burning when you urinate, or vaginal bleeding.

The Dangers of Giving Your Baby Cereal in a Bottle

Love Baby Love Sleep

Many parents have been adding cereal to their babies bottles with the hopes that baby will sleep good through the night or because they feel the baby is not getting enough to eat.

If you've heard the statements, "Add cereal to your babies bottle and he'll sleep for 5 hours" or "If your baby permanently wants to nurse or seems hungry, add cereal to the bottle," know that those are myths and not facts.

Your baby gets enough nutrition from breast milk or recipe for the first 6 months of life. In fact, many healing experts agree that introducing cereal before 4 months of age can cause food allergies. Additionally, adding cereal to your babies bottle is a bad idea. Period.

Experts like Dr. Alan Greene, M.D. Believe that the sucking and swallowing actions are not fully coordinated in some children, which can lead to pulmonary problems because they can inhale small amounts of rice cereal in their lungs.

What other dangers are there with adding cereal to a babies bottle? For one thing, your child could very well be on the road to obesity. The extra calories in the cereal itself is enough to teach your child to overeat. When your child is at least 4 months of age, it is more convenient to introduce cereal by feeding your baby with a spoon. Not only does this teach them to learn to eat from a spoon, but it also allows them to rest in between and it helps the baby learn the allowable way to eat.

Well, what about your mother, and your grandmother, and your sister, and all those habitancy who swear that adding cereal to a babies bottle will help them sleep and stay satisfied longer? Dr. Alan Greene, M.D. States, "I calculate the calculate is that kids do fall asleep a bit more quickly, and some babies may even go a bit longer between feedings. There is no scientific evidence, though, to hold the claim that cereal in the bottle will help an baby increase total sleep or decrease crying."'

The American Academy of Pediatrics also advises against feeding a baby cereal from a bottle. The only time feeding a baby cereal in a bottle is when your Pediatrician recommends it to help with reflux.

Obesity. Food Allergies. Pulmonary problems. Bad eating habits. Those are all enough reasons to steer away from giving your baby a bottle of cereal. You may be happy you did.

Sleep Routines - How to Adjust Your 1 Year Olds Sleep routine From 2 Sleeps to 1 and Stay Sane!

Love Baby Love Sleep

This is a unmistakably base inquire and it is all the time a great idea to know what to anticipate and how you are going to cope these transitions. I understand that while we know our children may need two sleeps a day (at nearby 6 to 12 months of age), they take up much of the day and can make appointments, activities and the school run for older children quite tricky. It is sensible however to remember that while two sleeps may be sometimes inconvenient, your baby will make you pay if they are overtired or miss out on the sleep they need. That is why I love car capsules (for flexible transfers in the middle of the car and other locations for newborns) and encourage background noise on at home during sleeps, to enable your child to sleep through noise exterior the home.

So, how do we know when our 12 month old babies are ready to go from 2 sleeps to 1?

*Baby will start to refuse one or both day sleeps but not cope all day until the night sleep.

*or reduce both sleeps to nearby 30-45 minutes.

Once you can see this happening for about a week and you are convinced they are ready for 1 sleep, try the following:

*Decide on a sleep time and lock it in place. I suggest 12 md. Remember you need to keep the sleep in the middle of the day so the baby can cope before and after the sleep until bedtime at nearby 7-7.30pm.

*Once you rule to change to 1 sleep, it is prominent to keep one sleep and not swap in the middle of 1 sleep sometimes and 2 sleeps at other times. Your baby's body clock needs time to adjust and needs consistency for this to happen.

*Even though you may have been convinced that your baby was ready for 1 sleep, they will whinge in the morning at nearby 9-10am when they used to have a morning sleep and appear tired. I call this a 'hump' that you need to distract your baby through (outside is best for fresh air) until they get their second wind and can stay up until 12 md.

*Your baby may whinge at 'hump' time for a few weeks to a few months until their body clock adjusts to the 1 sleep. Remember that if you allow 2 sleeps to creep in sometimes you will delay the baby coping with the morning and not whinging.

*Baby will probably have lunch at 11.30am.

*Avoid 'power naps' of a minimum of 10 minutes sleep when travelling in the car or the stroller if at all inherent in the mornings. A power nap will preclude your baby sleeping at lunchtime and generate a monster to deal with until bedtime.

Tip: Remember that your baby needs to earn their sleep with physical activity, No Tv in the morning and great healthy house meals. Your baby should be so tired that they are begging you to go to sleep! If not, they haven't earned their sleep and have spent too much time sitting in something (a stroller, play pen, swing, shopping trolley, walker).

Clothing - Newborn babies grow into the next size very quickly! Don't go crazy purchasing the tiny newborn clothing items, or you may find that your baby has outgrown them before he/she has even had a opportunity to try them on! By the time your baby is about 8-9 pounds, you will need the 3 month old clothing (these will last until your baby is about 12 pounds). Some larger babies even skip the newborn size altogether!

The quantities listed here are based on the assumption that you will be washing your laundry at least 2 times per week.
5-10 newborn sized outfits 2 sweaters 5-7 sleepwear 2-4 wearable blankets or sleep sacks 4-6 onsies dress clothes 2 pairs of mittens (for preventing scratches) hats - one for warmth and one for shade snowsuit - do Not use when your baby is in his/her car seat 6-10 pairs of socks (more is great because they are so wee that they get lost or "eaten" by the washing machine) accessories - such as shoes, hair decor, jewelry mild laundry detergent Bathing and Grooming - When my first baby was born, we had very wee in the way of baby supplies - and nothing for bathing. Do you know what we discovered? We didn't authentically need much. He got perfectly clean when I bathed him in the bathroom sink and washed his hair with the kitchen sink hose.

So why did I include most of the following items in this newborn baby checklist? Convenience. There is a Lot to be said for convenience when you have a newborn baby in the house!
baby tub or baby bathing sponge 4 baby washcloths 2 hooded towels baby lotion baby brush infant nail clippers baby shampoo/body wash bath thermometer Nursery Items - A beautifully decked-out nursery is a fun way to prepare for your new baby. dresser baby size hangers rocking chair cd player with soothing cds night light nursery decor - wall hangings, window coverings, bed skirt Diapering - "Changing a diaper is a lot like getting a present from your grandmother - you're not sure what you've got but you're pretty sure you're not going to like it." (Foxworthy) No baby checklist would be perfect without "covering" this.
wet wipes - whether industrial or home-made changing table with a water-proof pad 3 washable changing pad covers hand sanitizer diaper rash remedy wipe warmer diaper disposal or diaper pail with liners basket or diaper holder for holding diapers orderly If using disposable diapers: 10-12 disposable diapers per day Or If using cloth diapers: 24-36 cloth diapers 8-10 diaper covers inserts and liners diaper pins if the chosen ideas calls for them diaper sprayer Feeding - After you have decided whether you will be breastfeeding or bottle feeding, you will want to think which items you will need to assist you in growing a salutary baby. Breastfeeding Needs: 3-5 nursing bras nursing pads - washable or disposable breast pump nipple cream breast milk storage containers breast feeing pillow nursing cover 10 burp rags Bottle Feeding Needs: bottles (Bpa free) - start with just a few until you know what your baby will prefer nipples (clear silicone) formula - don't stock up until you know it will "agree" with your baby 10 burp rags bottle brush bottle warmer drying rack sterilization bags Sleeping - Newborn babies spend about 18 out of every 24 hours sleeping. At least some of that time you will want to put him/her down to tend to your own needs. Your baby's security while that time is paramount. Providing a safe, comfortable, familiar place to sleep will help your baby produce good sleeping habits which will in turn facilitate Your sleep. You will need:
sleeping place - crib with mattress, portable crib, bassinet, Moses basket, or co-sleeper 2 mattress pads 3 fitted sheets 6-8 receiving blankets baby monitor a small fan for air circulation and white noise Traveling - whether it is across town or across the country - you will want to show off your baby (or at least re-stock on diapers). Traveling with a newborn is more involved than grabbing your keys and walking out the door, but you will be ready for any trip if you have:
car seat diaper bag replacement car seat cover stroller baby sling or carrier blankets of varying thicknesses car seat travel bag for air travel portable crib Health - No one likes to think about their baby becoming ill, but sooner or later it is bound to happen. Be ready by having the following items on hand:

A few items that will stimulate and entertain him/her while you are occupied will be useful to you both.
baby movable or a plastic mirror for the crib a few toys of differing textures baby swing and/or baby bouncer baby book for recording all of the milestones A coarse "rookie mom" mistake is caring for her baby to the exclusion of caring for herself. Don't forget to make "mommy care" a priority, too. Add your favorite bubble bath to your newborn baby checklist - and then use it!

Baby Sleep Training - How to Mimic the Feeling of the Womb

Love Baby Love Sleep

For the whole starting of their lives, babies are accustomed to one environment: the womb. It can be very jarring to come into a new world with so much new stimuli, and it can cause a feeling of insecurity in baby. The best way to help baby sleep more soundly, make the transition, and feel safe is to mimic some of the feelings of the womb.

Characteristics of The Womb

So what does the womb have that your house doesn't? Let's think about the environment baby is well-known with:

Lots of white noise - he's used to a very loud environment, what with the surface noises mixing with the sounds of the body's machinery Cramped quarters - he's used to existing in a very small space, where everything is close together Feeling supported - he's used to being touched and supported on the sides and bottom of the womb, which creates a sense of relax from being touched Fetal position - he's accustomed to laying in the fetal position, with the arms and legs drawn up and close to the body

As you read this, birth might seem to come as a relief. To us, the womb doesn't seem very comfortable, but to baby, it's home. You can ease the transition and help baby sleep by mimicking some of these qualities

Why Does This Feeling Help Baby Sleep? We've already talked about this, but it's important adequate to say again. Babies, even in the womb, are very sensitive to emotions and feelings. Just like you, baby doesn't sleep well if she's not relaxed and feeling safe.

It comes as a domino effect: if baby is anxious or in some other way emotionally upset, she can't relax. When she can't relax, and you put her to bed and leave, she gets more upset, which makes it take even longer to relax. Until she relaxes, she can't fall asleep, and crying ensues.

Swaddle baby

Swaddling baby can help her relax and rule down because it mimics the close quarters of the womb. Babies can be unsettled by the free use of their arms and legs after birth, a feeling they didn't have in the womb. Additionally, babies tend to jerk a bit upon falling asleep and can wake themselves up or become startled by these natural movements.

Swaddling baby all the time is fine for the first month of life; after that, baby needs entrance to her arms and legs to organize properly. However, you can still swaddle baby for naps and nighttime to help her sleep.

So what is swaddling?

Swaddling is wrapping baby tightly in a blanket to mimic the feeling of the womb. Swaddling reminds baby of the security and contract feeling of the womb.

How to swaddle baby

Lay a baby blanket on the floor and fold one corner into the center about 6 inches Lay baby on her back on the blanket, with her head at the folded-down corner. The head should be off the blanket so it's free Take the corner near baby's left hand and pull it over baby to the right, securing it underneath baby Fold up the bottom of the blanket towards baby's chin, enclosing baby's feet Take the corner near baby's right hand and pull it over baby to the left, securing it underneath baby
Important tips

Swaddle baby when she is full, clean, and dry. Swaddling is meant to be a comfortable, comforting palpate for baby, and if she is in some way unsettled, she will connect bad memories with swaddling. Don't swaddle baby when it is very hot. Keep baby from overheating by not swaddling when it is very hot surface or when baby is in a warm room. This is especially important when baby is going to sleep, as overheating is a risk factor for Sids. Listen to baby so you know when she wants out. Baby will kick or squirm when she wants to be free, so pay attention for these actions. Let baby out if you know she is uncomfortable, or the feeling can cause distress and keep baby from relaxing. Don't swaddle baby enduringly after the age of one month. She needs entrance to her limbs in order to organize correctly.
Action Items:

Find or buy a baby blanket convention swaddling a doll before attempting it on your live, squirming baby Pay attention to baby's reaction to being swaddled and adjust if necessary

Strategies for Mimicking the Womb Bathe baby in a bucket

There are a host of products ready that offer an alternative to a mini-adult-like bath. Baths can be a pivotal freedom tool each day to help baby sleep, mostly because being immersed in water reminds them of being in the womb.

Naturally, you can see that how you bathe baby becomes an important part of helping baby calm down and fall asleep. Babies feel most comfortable in the fetal position, and a pail provides this capability. It supports baby's weight and allows her to be touched on the sides and the bottom of the bucket, again reminding her of the womb.

A pail is a natural selection for a bath because it approximately soldiery baby into the fetal position. This combined with warm water and the tightness of baby touching the sides and bottom of the pail work together to recreate the feeling of the womb. As opposed to a bucket, a mini-adult-like bath gives baby the feeling of swimming, like in the womb, but makes her feel a bit lost, with nothing to control her arms and legs from floating around.

I know, it seems approximately cruel to put your baby in a bucket, right? Think surface the box! It only seems strange because not many habitancy do it...in the United States, that is. Bathing baby in a pail is a favorite form of baby care in Europe and is acceptable as helping to calm and reassure babies in this big new world.

Quick tip: there's no need to go buy an expensive baby bathing bucket, though you legitimately can. Use what you have at home, but be sure to pick a pail you have not used with harsh chemicals. Think of a pail used to build sand castles, perhaps. If possible, find a pail with flexible sides, so that baby is supported softly and without any sharp edges or seams.

Action Items:

Find a baby-sized pail in the house and thoroughly clean it, or purchase a new one Confirm that the pail is flexible, smooth, and won't tip over when baby is inside Test a bath to see if baby likes the feeling of a pail better than a original baby bath

Sway and Shush Your Baby To Sleep

When a mom moves nearby doing daily tasks, a baby in the womb is simply swung gently from side to side. This swaying motion becomes well-known and comforting, so parents can try using this as a means of calming baby before sleep. Remember, this isn't the kind of thing that you want to do every time that baby wakes up, or you will have to repeatedly get up in the middle of the night.

Instead, this is what you want to do to help rule baby down so that she can fall asleep on her own. When swaying baby, be polite and consistent. She should fall into a sort of rhythm that helps calm her. Swaying shouldn't be fast or exciting, as it's meant to relax baby. Sway her too fast and she'll think it's playtime instead!

Shushing is someone else technique that mimics the womb. This is similar to the sounds that baby hears in the womb and can also be quieting. As with swaying, shushing should be polite and rhythmic. It should be flat and mimic the pattern of baby's breathing - one "shush" per exhale.

Shushing should be soft, not harsh; avoid the sound a trainer makes when quieting her classroom. Instead, use shushing as a sort of white noise, meant to calm baby without her ever even realizing it.

Action Items:

Sing a song in your head while you sway or shush to help originate a slow rhythm Try dissimilar speeds and voice levels to find out what quiets baby best

Wear Baby

Another solution that feels similar to the womb is wearing baby in a sling, wrap, or pouch. This has benefits for you, because it allows you to be close to baby while retention your hands free, and it makes baby feel protected, safe, and comfortable.

Wearing baby helps keep baby warm, lets her hear your heartbeat, and builds a close connection that is fostered through personal contact. Listed here are a few options for wearing baby, but it's up to you to rule which solution is best and most comfortable for you and baby:

Wrap - wraps are long pieces of fabric tied to the wearer in various positions. Baby folds up inside it and it is very versatile. This is best for small babies; larger children will have problem fitting, and it could be uncomfortable for the wearer. Mei Tai - an Asian-inspired carrier with more structure than a wrap. It can be worn on the front, back, or hip, depending on relax and baby's size. This is a viable selection for larger or older babies. Adjustable pouch - a pouch is a circle of fabric tied onto the wearer's front that holds the baby into the wearer's chest. It is similar to a Mei Tai and is also good for babies of all sizes.
Action Items:

Evaluate your needs and baby's size to rule which style is right for you convention tying on a wrap, sling or pouch with a doll prior to working with baby Adjust the fit as primary - if baby seems uncomfortable, value her fit to see if whatever is rubbing or pinching. Try putting baby in while sitting down to see if this helps think dissimilar options as baby grows and your activities change. Some ways to wear baby are more acceptable for some types of activities than others

Parenting Children: The Do's and Don'ts of Getting Your 3-5 Year Old to Sleep

Love Baby Love Sleep

Are you struggling with a toddler or preschooler who refuses to go to sleep?

Getting children to go to sleep is one of the most talked about issues that concern parents, second only to getting your child to behave. There have been parents in near hysterics, trying to deal with a child who throws huge tantrums when asked to go to sleep.

There are several things you can do to help your 3-5 year old go to sleep without too much trouble:

1. Do stick to a schedule.

It's tempting during summer break to ease up on bedtime routines and allow your child to go to sleep late. If done occasionally it doesn't gift a problem. Any way consistently allowing your child to dodge regular bedtimes creates confusion.

Persistent children will challenge bedtime, since it's their nature to push the envelope. Other children may feel insecure when routines aren't followed, and react with disruptive and uncontrollable behavior.

If you decree to allow your children to stay up late occasionally, schedule it first. You can decree to let your kids go to sleep late once a week, and pick a specific day.

2. Do succeed a consistent bedtime routine.

This is an obvious one, and many parents feel that they've got this base covered. The key to this, however, is giving over the responsibility of carrying out the bedtime disposition to your child.

Even if your child is as young as three years old, they're capable of following a chart with pictures, putting a seal on a picture when the performance is completed.

The magic of this lies in the fact that many children view bedtime as something imposed from the outside, causing them to rebel naturally because "Mommy told me to." Putting your child in fee as much as possible reduces this natural resistance.

3. Don't use incentives or prizes for going to sleep longer than 30 days.

Incentives and rewards are a great way of providing the extra push a child needs in order to endeavor a difficult task. The best way to use incentives is in helping your child to stick to a habit.

Since acquiring a habit takes about 30 days, this is the maximum whole of time you should use prizes or incentives for a singular behavior.

4. Do allow your child a crutch, if they need it.

As long as the crutch isn't damaging to your child's health, go ahead and let your child sleep with all 25 cars in his car collection. It won't hurt him, and if he manages to go to sleep despite the space limitations, why not?

Most children discard such unusual sleeping arrangements when they get old sufficient to be embarrassed about it (usually by the age of 9 or so).

5. Reconsider using natural sleep aids or remedies.

There are numerous safe natural alternatives that will help your child decree down. Passiflora, for example, is safe for small children. It can be made into a soothing tea, and can help calm an overtired toddler or a too-full-of-energy preschooler. Lavender in a pillowcase has also been shown to promote sleep.

note: This is not healing advice, nor should it be taken as such. Use base sense, and ask your doctor before you give anyone to your child.

6. Don't forget to try and make up for lost sleep yourself.

Living with a child who refuses to go to sleep can sway your work, health, and your marriage. While you may not be able to make up all of the sleep time you've lost, do try and "power nap" for 15 minutes or so sometime during the day.

Care of Wild Baby Mice

Love Baby Love Sleep

If for some fancy wild baby mice have been located in your care, I have included a few tips on caring and feeding to help you give them a occasion at life. Please be aware that even in the wild, mice have a 50% occasion of surviving beyond 5 months of age, given a normal upbringing. The mice that do make it can live up to nearby 5 years if healthy. A pair will have a better occasion of survival than a lone mouse.

As soon as you have your baby mice, it is prominent to keep them safe and warm. You can use a small pet carrier, large plastic tub or any other favorable box in which you can put them. Layer the bottom with a towel and place the mice on top. Then, use someone else soft material to lightly cover the mice like fleece. Place the box in a warm place, ensuring that it isn't hot; otherwise the mice will come to be dehydrated. A heater on the bottom setting may be all that is needed. Test the towel the mice are laying on so that it feels cosy and warm to your hand.

If the baby mice are less than 14 days old they will need dropper fed with a milk substitute until they are weaned. They regularly open their eyes when they are just about weaned and able to eat by themselves. You will need to feed them every 2 hours so be prepared to get up while the night. Set your alarm. When I was seeing after wild mice, I was getting up every 2 hours to check them. I have since read that while the night mother mouse would be away seeing for food and may only return to the nest once to feed her babies. Use base sense, if you can carry on a few night feeds, all the best for the babies occasion of survival, especially in the early days.

Kitten milk is ready to buy at pet shops. I used raw coconut blended up and strained. It should be 1 cup coconut to about 2 and ½ cups water. You could also use soaked almonds to make an almond milk using the same ratios. Make sure the nuts are natural and plain. Once you've made up the milk, store in a sterilised glass jar and keep in the fridge until required. When you go to feed the mice, take a quarter a cup of the milk and warm it up by pouring it in a small jug and standing in hot water. Use a dropper or baby syringe (you can get these at the chemist) to feed 1 or 2 drops of the milk at a time into the baby mouse mouth. When the mice are undoubtedly young, they might not open their mouth. Be just not to get the milk up their noses, they will splutter/cough if you do. It can be risky for their health if you do. The way I fed the mice was to put a facecloth down on a table and to put one mouse at a time onto it. Then you can gently hold the baby's head whilst you administer the milk with the dropper. You'll get the hang of it with a bit of practise. The baby might not seem to be taking much milk, don't worry. Very young babies may only need to get a drop or 2 on their mouth/tongues until they can take more. The main purpose here is to keep them hydrated with a diminutive drop at a time every join of hours.

Once the baby is fed, you need to stimulate a bowel movement. To do this, put some warm water in a small bowl and dip a cotton bud into it. Then, put the cotton bud between the baby's back legs and gently turn the bud around. You should see a diminutive brown staining, that is their poo. Dip the other end of the bud into the water and gently stroke the baby's body, this emulates the mother licking them. After all that, tuck baby up in it's soft bedding and place in a warm spot. This is the basic disposition that needs to be repeated every join of hours while the day and at least 2-3 times while the night, especially nearby 1am and 5am.

As you can see, it's quite a commitment, seeing after baby wild mice. But, there is also a great recompense in the caring of them and the bonding you will feel as a carer.

When the babies start to open their eyes or at least take a peak, they may be taking a lot more milk and starting to walk nearby a little. This is when you need to be extra careful; one fall is sufficient to be fatal. You can make a diminutive safe roaming area in the bottom part of a pet cage or shoebox/basin. Line it with newspaper and leaves to simulate a natural environment. The youngsters will enjoy stretching their legs and taking their first steps. This is important, as it will build up their muscles and strength.

Once the babies start to bite your fingers quite firmly when you feed them, they may be ready for a diminutive solid food. They will also be starting to open their eyes (12-14 days old) Start very gently with this. Try some baby fruit puree to start or natural rice pudding. The food should not be chilled. Let them lick it off your finger. Avoid putting the purees onto a dish for the mice to feed from, as they might get messy and end up with matted fur, which needs to be avoided. Some other foods to graduate to are porridge, banana, tomato, dried oat flakes, strawberry. Just go real easy with the food and keep it easy and undoubtedly digested to start with. Congratulations! You've undoubtedly made it to the weaning stage, which is quite something with wild baby mice.

Continue to supply a safe space for the mice to sleep and once weaned, they will be able to come out at night to feed. Give them a diminutive dish near their bed so they can feed while the night. At least you can get some sleep now! Continue to offer the milk while the day and supply some water for them. Usually, wild mice will still have some mothers milk up to about 4 weeks of age.

Now you have to decide whether to keep them or publish into the wild. I don't know how many mice have been successfully hand-reared and released into the wild. I would think it unlikely that they can survive. However, you've done your bit and if they seem strong and wholesome and quite active, it might be possible to publish them. Or, you can keep them as pets.

Finally, if you did your best and the mice died, don't feel bad. Survival chances in the best of conditions i.e. With their natural mother are still low. Just enjoy the palpate you've had with them and the occasion to get a remarked into their diminutive lives. They are diminutive bundles of love and it is fabulous to have at least given them some love when otherwise they might have perished.
